Siduction 12.2.0 RC1 Has Razor-Qt

Siduction 2012.2 RC1, a Linux distribution that ships with four desktop environments, KDE SC, XFCE LXDE, and Razor-Qt, for both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures, was announced today.

Siduction 12.2.0 RC1 has been dubbed Riders on the Storm and it's based on Debian's unstable branch. The goal of the developer will try to release snapshots quarterly.

Unlike previous versions that only featured three desktop environments, KDE SC, XFCE, LXDE, this latest version also introduces Razor-Qt, at version 0.5.1. It's not ready yet, but it still makes a great addition to the other packages.

On the other hand, XFCE in Debian is unstable, due to the freeze for the Wheezy release, which is still on version 4.8. This means that for this release, XFCE has been updated to version 4.10.

“A lot of time consuming changes again went into adapting the codebase we forked to our needs. We found the way how artwork was integrated into the different flavours for each release very cumbersome and have reshaped the process.”

“The same thing is happening to the bluewater manual at the moment. The process of adding new pages needs an overhaul to simplify the process. All in all we closed 101 bugs since the last release, most of them being code rewrites,” states the official announcement.

The developers have also provided some important hardware tips, especially for the users who own an ATI Radeon graphics accelerator. They will have to use the failsafe option, when booting the Live-ISO.

This option will add the cheatcodes radeon.modeset=0 xmodule=vesa to the Kernel bootline, so that the user can boot to X. Before installing, on the Live-ISO, please install firmware-linux-nonfree.

Check out the official announcement for a detailed list of changes and updates.
