Google Chrome Is Only Months Away from Taking the Crown from IE

Google Chrome just keeps on growing, well according to some data sources, and it's now getting close to overtaking Internet Explorer to become the most used browser in the world.

StatCounter's latest data shows that Chrome, while slowing down, is only months away from becoming the world's biggest browser, having ended the month with a 31.23 percent market share, growing from 30.87 in the previous month.

IE on the other hand, all versions combined, was used in 34.07 percent of visits counted by the analytics provider. That's down from 34.81 percent in March 2012.

Google Chrome only overtook Firefox last November, according to StatCounter data, but it hasn't slowed down since.

What's more, Google Chrome already is the world's most popular browser on most weekends. It overtook IE for the first time in history a little over a month ago, but it's been growing strong since.

It is only a matter of time now before Google Chrome takes the number one spot and doesn't give it back. Beyond that, it's anyone's guess. Firefox doesn't seem to be adding any market share at this point, but IE may not drop enough for Firefox to overtake it as well.

The other browsers aren't really moving, Firefox is stuck at around 25 percent, 24.87 percent in April, 24.98 percent the month before, 24.88 percent the month before that and so on.

Apple's Safari gained a bit of market share, going from 6.72 percent to 7.13 percent in the last month. Opera isn't doing any better than it always had, it was at 1.72 percent market share, from 1.78 percent in the previous month and 2.02 percent the month before that.
